How does the income tax calculator work?

Enter your annual income, applicable deductions and preferred tax regime. The calculator estimates taxable income, applies the selected regime's tax slabs, accounts for the applicable Section 87A rebate where relevant, adds 4% Health & Education Cess and estimates your post-tax income.

Taxable Income = Annual Income − Deductions; Total Tax = Income Tax − Applicable Rebate + 4% Health & Education Cess

About this calculator

An income tax calculator helps estimate your Indian income tax liability based on annual income, applicable deductions and the selected tax regime.

For AY 2026-27, the new tax regime uses slabs starting at ₹4 lakh and increasing through ₹24 lakh, with income above ₹24 lakh taxed at 30%. The old regime uses different slab rates and thresholds.

The Section 87A rebate can significantly reduce tax for eligible resident individuals. Under the new regime for AY 2026-27, the rebate can be up to ₹60,000 for total income up to ₹12 lakh. The old regime provides a rebate of up to ₹12,500 for eligible income up to ₹5 lakh.

A 4% Health & Education Cess is applied to the applicable income tax after rebates. This calculator is a simplified estimator and does not cover every tax rule, exemption, special-rate income, surcharge or individual tax situation.

Tax rules can change between financial years. Always verify the result against the latest official Income Tax Department rules before making financial decisions.
